More accessible sports and cultural activities for a greater number of families

The City of Magog is pleased to announce a new collaboration between two Magogois organizations, the Maison de la famille Memphrémagog and the Christian Vachon Foundation. This agreement will allow a greater number of families in the MRC of Memphremagog to have access to financial support for the registration of sports and cultural activities at the recreational level for children aged between 4 and 18 years old.

The financial assistance granted covers registration fees for activities up to a maximum of $100 per child, per request. These costs will be reimbursed to the organization, association or recognized private company. To have access to it, families must meet certain criteria concerning, among other things, family income and family size.

The Mayor of the City of Magog, Mrs. Vicki-May Hamm, is delighted to see that the community is mobilizing by offering the possibility to as many children as possible to practice sports or cultural activities through which they will flourish. “This announcement comes in time for the registration period for fall-winter activities which will begin in September, which should give a boost to families who are very busy when the start of the school year arrives. »

This type of support has been offered for several years to families in the MRC by the Maison de la famille Memphrémagog, via the Canadian Tire Bon Départ Foundation. As Ms. Nathalie Bélanger, Executive Director of the Maison de la Famille, points out, “a budget envelope was allocated to us each year, allowing us to provide much-appreciated assistance to some forty families each year. Once the available sums were exhausted, we unfortunately had to refuse requests. By collaborating with us, the Christian Vachon Foundation will support an unlimited number of families! »

President of the Foundation that bears his name, Christian Vachon explains that for his organization “it is a way of closing the loop in terms of the services already offered to children from families in need that we sponsor during a school year. Through this partnership, it will now be possible to offer them services and support even during the summer period. We will now be able to support these children in their development, 365 days a year.”

Eligibility criteria

 The duration of the activity must be a minimum of 5 weeks (1 hour per week) or, in the context of a sports camp, a minimum of 2 weeks (3 hours minimum per day).

 Financial assistance is limited to 2 activities per child per year. The family can make 2 requests per year for spring-summer and fall-winter activities.

 Financial assistance can apply to all children in the same family in need.
